A new chapter: From Foundation to Futures

For the past seven years, the Quality of Life Foundation has been on a journey to understand a fundamental question: What do people need from their homes and communities to experience a good quality of life?

Through pioneering research, the development of our Quality of Life Framework, and the launch of our Code of Practice for Effective Community Consultation and Engagement, we successfully built the evidence base for a more compassionate, health and wellbeing-focused built environment.

However, identifying the ‘what’ is not enough. We need a more sustainable model to deliver the ‘how.’

So today we announce that we are evolving from a charity into a social enterprise: Quality of Life Futures.

Why the change?

Our mission remains the same: to make health and wellbeing central to the way we create and care for homes and neighbourhoods across the UK. Because having a decent and affordable home, in a safe and well-designed neighbourhood is the foundation for a happy, healthy life.

While our work was previously supported by a traditional charity model, the lack of long-term, sustainable grant funding for core activities required a change, so we are moving away from grant dependency toward a self-sustaining, income-generating model. This resilience allows us to maintain our purpose and to provide the high-level consultancy and tools needed to help organisations make the right decisions today that will create the safe, healthy, and more connected communities of tomorrow.

Director Matthew Morgan continues to lead the mission, moving to a network of hand-picked consultants and collaborators. This allows us to assemble the precise expertise required for every project – from engagement specialists to data analysts and systems thinking experts – ensuring our clients get the best possible outcomes without the overheads of a traditional charity.

Carrying the golden thread forward

Our heritage as a charity is the golden thread that runs through everything we do. The research, the library of good practice, and the Quality of Life Framework remain the bedrock of our work. We will continue to bridge the gap between thought and action, ensuring that the evidence we gather is put into practice.

Thank you for being part of our history. We look forward to building the future with you.
