Combining nature recovery and community health: how to make the most of biodiversity net gain

This report highlights how developers, local authorities and consultants are supporting the recovery of nature in housing developments by managing the process of achieving biodiversity net gain. In it, we showcase some exemplar projects and provide insights and recommendations to industry and policy-makers.

The report consists of three interviews with industry leaders. Our first interview is with Group Head of Sustainability, Louise Clarke, and Landscape and Estate Manager, Paul Covele, of Berkeley Group. Berkeley Group has voluntarily engaged with BNG now for a number of years and has been instrumental in guiding early policy development.

Our second is with Dr Gemma Jerome, Director of Building with Nature, which shapes and defines high quality green infrastructure projects through a standardised framework and accreditation system.

Our third is with Paul Morris, a Director at Civic Engineers, an organisation with a commitment to nature-based solutions, consulting on some of the leading green infrastructure projects in the UK in recent years.

The report summarises some of the key aspects of biodiversity net gain and showcases best practice for this new mandatory legislation.
