Quality of Life Mapping
An evidence-based approach to understanding health and wellbeing in places
Quality of Life Mapping is an intensive research and engagement programme for local authorities, developers, housing associations and local communities. It provides evidence to inform spatial strategies and to measure the impact of health and wellbeing interventions on an area.
What is Quality of Life Mapping?
Our Quality of Life Mapping service provides a spatial analysis of what local communities value and need in their area, with a focus on health and wellbeing outcomes.
Our expert team combines “passive” data (like Census data or local statistics) with data we actively collect through deep engagement in local communities, based on the themes of the Quality of Life Framework. This helps us to create a clear picture of local socio-economic conditions mapped alongside people’s lived experience of a place.
By doing this, we develop an evidence base for the health and wellbeing needs of a local population and create the ability to measure any change in needs and outcomes over time.
Who is Quality of Life Mapping for?
Our Quality of Life Mapping service is for organisations that have a role to play in shaping new (or regenerated) places and the communities they serve. For example:
- Local authorities
- Large developers
- Housing associations
- Local communities, whose lives will ultimately be affected by any changes in their area.
What can Quality of Life Mapping be used for?
Quality of Life Mapping can be used to:
- Create a spatial strategy that encompasses existing datasets and combines them with what local people think and feel about where they live
- Better understand how Local Plans can be adapted to match the needs of specific communities within an area
- Develop evidence-based masterplans based on local need, using the insights gained to ensure the development meets them
- Provide a baseline from which to measure the quality of life outcomes of interventions in an area
- Add an evidence-based outcomes focus to your social value measurement
