Our Edinburgh Neighbourhood (Community Consultation for Quality of Life)

Our Edinburgh Neighbourhood is the latest report from the Community Consultation for Quality of Life project, focusing on the pilot in Edinburgh.

Community Consultation for Quality of Life (CCQOL) is a collaborative project we’re working on with the universities of Reading, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Ulster. It’s funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and seeks to develop a Code of Conduct for inclusive participatory planning.

We wanted to know about the places people value both in their neighbourhoods and Edinburgh’s city centre. We used an accessible online application featuring an immersive mapping tool to share what participants valued in their neighbourhood. In Central Edinburgh we opened an Urban Room, part meeting place, part exhibition; a resource to gather and share information. We also worked with neighbourhoods in Liberton and Restalrig to understand how our themes can work with local priorities.

This report describes the information and insight we’ve gathered to help us all understand neighbourhoods, engagement in the planning process and how urban rooms can work best to nurture and sustain community co-creation.
